Author Health provides care for patients with complex, SMI (Severe Mental Illness) diagnoses.
The Challenge
Author Health is a behavioral health platform for medicare patients with SMI that combines in-person and virtual team approaches to create emotional stability and financial value. Often, these individuals struggle to navigate and manage their care alone within traditional healthcare systems. Our challenge was to create an identity that conveyed both trustworthiness and expertise in this complex area but also encouraged empowerment, connection, and support for patients and their caregivers. The brand needed to stand out as a partner, not just a provider, and communicate a commitment to treating the whole person beyond their mental health condition.
The Solution
We positioned Author Health as a company that empowers individuals to take ownership of their mental health journey by meeting them exactly where they are. By recognizing that each person is one-of-a-kind, they can partner with patients without judgment, embracing their quirks, flaws, and imperfections as essential parts. The brand celebrates personal growth, bold choices, and authentic self-expression, ensuring that every patient and caregiver has the right support to reclaim their journey and live it fully, on their terms.

Results
Since its 2023 launch, Author Health has raised $115M in funding, partnered with Humana to serve Medicare Advantage patients, and expanded services nationally.

Involved with the whole project cycle, I worked closely with brand strategists during the strategy phase fully taking over brand design and brand guidelines. I oversaw applications of the brand as well as website design. As the voice of the brand, I'm presented all concepts and led internal critiques to refine and elevate the project.

Audience
Author Health offers expert care and support services for people living with Alzheimer’s Disease & Other Dementia, Severe Depression & Anxiety, Bipolar Disorder, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Schizophrenia & Psychosis and Substance Use Disorders. These populations and their caregivers regularly fall through the cracks of the traditional healthcare system.

Bridging the Gap
The Author Health logo encapsulates the essence of a new story unfolding, seamlessly bridging the gap between compassionate care and the vibrant lives of their patients and caregivers. Its upward form recalls a drop cap marking the start of a narrative, while each of its points reflect the company’s five-person, team-based approach to care. The arch conveys stability and connection, grounding the mark in strength. The logo serves as a reminder that within Author Health’s care, patients and caregivers can begin a new chapter: one written with compassion, support, and the belief that their stories can continue with hope and fulfillment.
PATTERNS & Graphics
Ferns symbolize growth, strength, and resilience and their ability to thrive in diverse environments makes them a metaphor for adaptability. In many indigenous cultures, such as those in Hawaii, ferns represent new life and fresh starts.
Vessels provide a nurturing space for patients and caregivers to grow, enabling their lives to flourish.
